It depends! There are a few factors that influence how long the process for purchasing might take:
- Is the total cost below <$10,000? If so, the purchase will likely be made using a Purchase Card, which is generally quicker than other forms of procurement. Laptops can't be purchased using a Purchase Card, per district policy.
- Is this a purchase of hardware? If so, we’ll need to account for the time it takes for those items to be shipped to DOES OIT, which might also depend on vendor inventory.
- How quickly do people respond? There’s a lot happening within DOES at any given time. That said, the more attentive people in the process are, the quicker it goes. OIT is committed to responding to initial requests within 2 business days and has automated some communications to occur as soon as a next step of approval has occurred. You can help make the process quick and smooth by taking a few steps.
All told, a rough average from request to delivery might entail:
- 10 days for a software Purchase Card
- 25 days for a software Purchase Order
- 30 days for a hardware Purchase Card
- 50 days for a hardware Purchase Order
